Role overview

Tamara is a leading fintech platform serving the Saudi Arabia and GCC region, with over 25 million customers and 130,000 partner merchants. As Senior Data Engineering Manager, you will lead a critical engineering function within the Global Platforms – Data department, managing a team of 6-10 senior engineers across potentially two squads while driving technical strategy and execution for systems that millions of users rely on daily.

Key responsibilities

Lead and inspire a team of senior engineers, establishing clear technical direction that supports both company vision and product priorities, while advocating for long-term technical quality alongside delivery timelines.
Develop direct reports and other team members for future leadership roles, create advancement opportunities for senior engineers, and support the success of new managers through mentoring and growth planning.
Lead architectural discussions for your team’s systems, drive improvements to reliability and performance, and maintain healthy balance between new feature work and technical investment.
Define and own delivery plans for initiatives spanning multiple teams, manage resource allocation and hiring strategy, and resolve cross-team delivery challenges through strategic trade-offs between immediate and long-term value.
Partner with Product and business leadership to influence medium- and long-term strategy, ensuring teams focus on measurable outcomes and ROI through thoughtful experimentation.
Build an inclusive team environment based on trust and accountability, foster knowledge-sharing, and collaborate with peer managers and architecture leadership to drive engineering standards across the organization.

Requirements

Minimum 4 years of experience managing one or more engineering teams, with proven track record of leading senior individual contributors and medium-to-high complexity projects.
Demonstrated experience owning delivery for initiatives that span multiple teams or navigate complex product domains.
Strong technical foundation in modern software development including languages such as Java or Go, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, messaging queues, and cloud services, with ability to lead architectural conversations and technical strategy.
Experience partnering with product managers to influence roadmaps and align technical initiatives with business objectives.
Proven capability in developing engineering talent through mentoring of senior engineers and aspiring managers.
Expertise in Agile methodologies and demonstrated success resolving complex cross-team delivery challenges in fast-paced environments.
Fintech or eCommerce experience is highly valued.
