Role overview
As a Software Engineering Intern at Lean, you will develop real production features for the financial infrastructure platform that serves major companies across the Middle East. You’ll work on Java Spring Boot services deployed on Kubernetes, with your code reviewed by experienced engineers and used by live clients. This internship is structured as a pathway into a full-time engineering position at the company.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and debug software enhancements through the complete cycle from ticket assignment to production deployment, with mentor review at each stage.
- Leverage agentic coding tools such as Claude Code as a core part of your development workflow to improve both code quality and delivery speed.
- Participate in code reviews both as a contributor receiving feedback and as a reviewer providing constructive comments on teammates’ work.
- Rapidly master the team’s tools, programming languages, and development workflows to ship meaningful contributions within your first weeks.
- Attend stand-ups, sprint planning, and review sessions, and communicate early when any of your deliverables face risk of delay.
- Develop working knowledge of Lean’s clients, their end-users, and the regulated financial environment in which the platform operates.
- Engage in broader company activities including team events, product demos, and cross-functional projects beyond your core team.
Requirements
- You are a final-year student or have graduated within the last twelve months with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
- You have hands-on experience using agentic coding tools as an integral part of your workflow, with the judgment to evaluate when to trust their output versus when to apply deeper scrutiny.
- You are proficient in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or equivalent.
- You understand core software development fundamentals including version control, testing, and debugging practices.
- You have built and shipped something beyond coursework: a personal project, hackathon submission, open-source contribution, or prior internship experience.
- You can articulate your problem-solving approach and explain how you break down complex challenges.
- You communicate clearly in writing, able to explain what you built and the reasoning behind your design decisions.
- You demonstrate both independence in tackling problems and sound judgment about when to seek help rather than remain blocked.
