Role overview

Lightspeed is seeking an experienced Payments Risk Analyst to join the Global Risk team in Belfast. This is a full-time position reporting to the Risk Operations Lead, focused on independently managing complex risk cases while contributing to broader operational and team improvements within the payments and financial services space.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage complex transaction, merchant, onboarding, fraud, credit, and compliance cases across multiple risk queues with end-to-end ownership and assessment.
  • Apply company policies, partner requirements, and regulatory guidelines to less-defined reviews, making sound decisions with incomplete information and minimal direction.
  • Use reports, risk signals, case trends, and operational data to identify emerging threats, suspicious activity, and opportunities for proactive risk mitigation.
  • Assess chargeback likelihood and merchant repayment capacity to balance portfolio protection against chargeback risk exposure.
  • Identify recurring issues, control gaps, and risk patterns across tools and workflows, recommending practical improvements to processes and playbooks.
  • Produce clear case summaries, findings, and decision rationale while maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to team knowledge materials.
  • Lead complex customer communications and collaborate with Support, Merchant Services, Product, and other teams to resolve shared problems and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in payments, fraud, credit risk, compliance, or financial services operations.
  • Demonstrated exposure to structured workflows, case management systems, queues, and service-level targets.
  • Experience working with written procedures and maintaining accurate records in a regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Card Scheme rules and regulations, with solid understanding of the full chargeback flow, process, and risk timeframes.
  • Proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets and proven analytic, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on available information in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interest in deepening knowledge of fraud, credit risk, merchant risk, and payments, with ability to suggest improvements based on that knowledge.
