Role overview

Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator serving over 4 million Canadians with managed investing, trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, and spending products. As an Engineering Manager for Institutional Transfers, you’ll lead a software development team responsible for making account transfers simple and reliable, overseeing systems that process thousands of transfers daily while balancing immediate client needs with long-term technical excellence.

Key responsibilities

Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, performance feedback, and career development initiatives.
Establish technical direction and product roadmaps in partnership with Product and Design teams, balancing new capabilities against reliability and maintainability requirements.
Ensure the transfer platform remains scalable and reliable while overseeing operational tooling and automation systems.
Work with Operations and Customer Experience teams to automate manual processes and improve the speed, accuracy, and transparency of transfer workflows.
Lead your team in building new account transfer capabilities using data-driven approaches and rapid iteration cycles.
Promote strong engineering practices including code review, testing, observability, documentation, and effective incident response.
Collaborate across Institutional Transfers, Banking, Infrastructure, Security, and Site Reliability teams to resolve dependencies and deliver complete solutions.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring software engineering teams, including hiring, feedback, and performance management responsibilities.
Strong technical background in production software development and distributed systems with sound judgment for architectural decisions.
Track record delivering reliable products with cross-functional partners in complex or regulated environments.
Working knowledge of modern backend and frontend systems, relational databases using SQL, event-driven architectures, and cloud infrastructure.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Commitment to inclusive leadership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement including team documentation and codebase enhancements.
Capability to support on-call duties and system maintenance responsibilities.
