Role overview

Tamara is a fintech platform serving the Saudi Arabia and GCC region, with over 25 million customers and 130,000 partner merchants relying on its financial solutions. As a Data Engineering Manager II within the Global Platforms – Data department, you will lead a critical engineering function, managing a team of 6-10 senior engineers across potentially two squads while driving technical strategy and delivery across complex product domains.

Key responsibilities

Lead and inspire a team of senior engineers, establishing clear direction aligned with company vision and ensuring alignment between technology goals and product priorities.
Develop direct reports and skip-level engineers for future leadership roles, create growth opportunities for senior engineers, and mentor those pursuing Engineering Manager I positions.
Lead architectural discussions for your team’s systems, driving continuous improvements to reliability, performance, and scalability while balancing new feature delivery with technical investment.
Define and own delivery plans for initiatives spanning multiple teams, manage resource allocation and hiring strategy, and proactively resolve complex cross-team delivery challenges.
Partner directly with product and business leadership to influence medium- and long-term strategies, ensuring teams focus on measurable outcomes and encouraging thoughtful experimentation.
Build a healthy, inclusive team environment based on trust and accountability, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the engineering organization.
Provide clear visibility to leadership on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies while making strategic trade-offs between short- and long-term value.

Requirements

At least four years of experience managing one or more engineering teams with a proven track record of leading senior individual contributors and medium-to-high complexity projects.
Demonstrated experience owning delivery for initiatives that span multiple teams or complex product domains.
Strong technical background in modern software development including languages such as Java or Go, Kubernetes, CI/CD, messaging queues, and cloud services, with experience leading architectural discussions and driving technical strategy.
Experience partnering with product managers to influence product roadmaps and align technical strategy with business objectives.
Proven ability to develop engineering talent through mentoring senior engineers and aspiring managers.
Expertise in Agile methodologies and experience resolving complex, cross-team delivery challenges in fast-paced environments.
Fintech or eCommerce experience is considered a strong advantage.
